Coach Ploessl, a native of Dubuque, graduated from Drake University in 1992. Coach Ploessl was a 4 year letterman on the defensive line for the Bulldogs. Coach Ploessl returns to Dubuque after a long career coaching in the college football ranks. His stops include Drake University, Oklahoma State, Iowa State, California University of PA, and most recently Montana State University. "Our goal is to build an exciting and competitive program at Senior. We look forward to putting an exciting football team on the field every week."

JOHN HEARN
VARSITY ASSISTANT

Coach Hearn, a native of New Jersey , graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in Mt. Vernon , Iowa in 1975. He graduated from Coe College in 1979. Coach Hearn was an active participant in football and track and field at Mt. Vernon High School and Coe College . He was inducted into the Coe College Athletic Hall of Fame in 1996. Following his heralded career, Coach Hearn began his teaching career at Dubuque Senior High School in 1979. He was named head cross country coach in 1979. During his tenure at Dubuque Senior High school he has coached wrestling from 1982-1985, football from 1980-2000 and track and field from 1980 to present. In addition to his coaching duties, Coach Hearn is a Science instructor at Dubuque Senior.

RYAN HOERNER
VARSITY ASSISTANT

Coach Ryan Hoerner hails from Epworth , Iowa and is a 2009 graduate of Wartburg College in Waverly Iowa. At Wartburg, Coach Hoerner was a three-year letter winner at tight-end on the varsity football team and was named to two all-conferzence teams. In 2008, he was named captain of the football team that went on to win outright the Iowa Conference Championship and advanced to the Elite Eight in the division III playoffs. This is Coach Hoerner's second year coaching football at Dubuque Senior High School . Coach Hoerner brings a philosophy to the Ram program that centers around three aspects. The three aspects are knowledge, aggressiveness, and toughness. If a player can harness all three of these aspects, they will be successful and ultimately have fun. In addition to his coaching duties, Coach Hoerner is a Mathematics teacher and is at Dubuque Senior High School.

GREG SIMPSON
VARSITY ASSISTANT

Coach Simpson is beginning his 8th season coaching at Dubuque Senior, previously holding the positions of varsity special teams coordinator, varsity offensive coordinator and sophomore head coach. Prior to coming to Dubuque Senior Coach Simpson assisted the University of Dubuque football program for 4 seasons as running backs coach, and defensive line coach. He holds a degree in history from the University of Dubuque as well. Coach Simpson is the proud parent of 3 Dubuque Senior High graduates, 2 current Rams and 1 future Ram.

MIKE WULFEKHULE
VARSITY ASSISTANT

Coach Wulfekuhle hails from Fayette, IA, and is a 1979 graduate of Loras College. Coaching sophomore football, he began his coaching career at Dubuque Wahlert in 1979. His first coaching stint with Senior High School was in 1984 when he coached freshman football. In addition to coaching freshmen football at Dubuque Senior, he has led the Sophomore Football program and has been Defensive Coordinator at the varsity level. Also, Coach Wulfekuhle directed the Ram football program in 2009 and 2010. Also, he has coached baseball and menís basketball during his tenure at Dubuque Senior High School. In addition to his coaching duties, Coach Wulfekuhle is a World History and Advanced Placement World History Instructor at The Dubuque Senior High School. He has 32.5 years teaching experience and has been an instructor at Senior since 1987.

Coach Reinert is a native of Dyersville , IA where he attended Beckman High School . While at Beckman, he participated in baseball, track and field, and football. Coach Reinert graduated from Loras College in 2007 with a degree in Chemistry and Secondary Education. While at Loras, Coach Reinert was a member of the football and track teams, as well as serving as the 2006-2007 American Chemical Society Club President. Following graduation, Coach Reinert accepted a teaching position at Dubuque Senior where he currently teaches Chemistry and Physics. This fall, Coach Reinert will begin his fourth year of coaching football. In addition to coaching football, Reinert is the Varsity throwers coach for the track team and is a part of the strength and conditioning committee at Senior. Coach Reinert believes that a successful football program begins with disciplined student-athletes on the field and in the classroom. Coach Reinert is also a firm believer that athletes should participate in as many sports as possible during their short four-year high school career. “Students who are constantly involved maintain a competitive edge, as well as continue to learn self-discipline and mental toughness year round,” said Reinert. Coach Reinert currently resides in Dyersville with his wife Kimberly, who is an Early Childhood Special Education teacher at Peosta Elementary.

TIM DOLSON

Coach Dolson was born and raised in Dubuque and graduated from Dubuque Senior High school in 1998. He graduated from St. Ambrose University in 2002 with a bachelor of arts in criminal justice. While at St. Ambrose, Coach Dolson participated in football and was named the freshman scout team player of the year in 1998. Coach Dolson was part of two conference championships (2001, 2002) and played wide receiver and defensive back. During his high school years at Dubuque Senior, Coach Dolson participated in football, and track and field. He was part of the 1997-98 playoff team where he started at wide receiver. Coach Dolson is entering his fourth year as a coach at Dubuque Senior High School . In addition to coaching, he works as a para-professional at Senior

CHARLIE BENDA

Coach Benda is entering his second year as a football coach at Dubuque Senior High School.  He grew up in Dubuque, IA and graduated from Dubuque Senior in 2005.  While at Senior, coach Benda participated in football and track & field.  After graduating coach Benda attended Wartburg College from 2005-2009 where he played linebacker on the football team and majored in History and History Education.  Currently coach Benda is working as a substitute teacher while looking to attain a full time position as an educator.

Coach Benda is a native of Dubuque and attended Dubuque Senior High School where he participated in football, basketball and track and field and was awarded the 2001-2002 Senior Male Athlete of the Year before graduating with honors in 2002. In 2007, Coach Benda graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a bachelor's degree in English. In addition to heading the Freshmen Football Coaching Staff, Coach Benda is also a coach with the Senior Men's Track and Field Program and works as a para-professional at Senior. As a two sport coach, Coach Benda encourages his football players to be multiple-sport athletes in order to both be better competitors and also to help Senior excel in all of our athletic programs.

TOM CUVELIER
FROSH ASSISTANT

Coach Cuvelier is from Lawler, Iowa and is a 1980 graduate of Turkey Valley High School and a 1984 graduate of UNI. He began his coaching career at Dubuque Senior in 1985, coaching sophomore football. 2010 will mark his 25 th year of teaching at Senior High and his 23rd season of coaching football. In addition Coach Cuvelier coached wrestling for 7 years and has supported the basketball and track programs by doing the public address announcing for the past 9 years. In addition to his coaching duties, Coach Cuvelier is Science department chair at Dubuque Senior and is a Honors Global Science Instructor.  Coach Cuvelier and his wife, Sue, have two daughters, Marie and Carolyn. Sue is an English Instructor at Senior, Marie is a 2008 Senior graduate and Carolyn will be part of the Senior Class of 2011. The Cuveliers are Rams through and through.

 

MIKE GUKEISEN
FROSH ASSISTANT

Coach Gukeisen was born and raised in Dubuque and graduated from Dubuque Hempstead High school in 1986. While at Hempstead, Coach Gukeisen participated in football, wrestling and track & field. During his senior year he was named team MVP as well as being named to the All-Conference and All-State teams as both a linebacker and running back. After graduation Coach Gukeisen spent two years at Iowa State playing football before finishing his career at Loras College, where he earned a degree in Finance and Management. Coach Gukeisen is entering his second year as a football coach at Dubuque Senior High School after coaching stops at both Dubuque Hempstead High School and East Dubuque High School. Coach Gukeisen resides in Dubuque with his wife Kathy and their sons Kaizer and Callum.

RHONDA HUMPAL
HEAD ATHLETIC TRAINER, ATC, LAT

Certified Athletic Trainer, Rhonda Humpal hails from rural Spillville , Iowa and is a 1998 Graduate of Upper Iowa University in Fayette with a degree in Athletic Training and Sports Science. The 2010 season marks the beginning of her 10 th year covering Dubuque Senior High School Athletics. Her role as Athletic Trainer is to recognize and treat athletic injuries, whether it is daily rehab, education to prevent injury, preventative care, or referral to other medical personnel for further evaluation. She is the proud mom of Dimitri, a future Ram
